Additional Information about Program

This is a one year program of training in advanced endoscopic procedures. One applicant is accepted per year. Applicants must have completed a general gastroenterology fellowship and be board eligible or certified in gastroenterology. The fellow receives training in a wide range of advanced endoscopic procedures including ERCP, diagnostic and therapeutic/interventional EUS (pancreatic necrosis, EDGE, EUS gastrojejunoustomy, EUS choledochoduodenostomy, EUS gallbladder drainage), endoscopic mucosal resection, advanced imaging technology, radiofrequency ablation, endoluminal stent placement, transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF), balloon enteroscopy, and endoscopic suturing. The fellow rotates through two teaching hospitals encompassing different practice settings (Baylor St Lukes Medical Center and Ben Taub County Hospital). The advanced fellow is expected to participate in scholarly activities including endoscopic research and teaching. The fellow is involved in multiple weekly conferences including advanced endoscopy case conference, advanced endoscopy morbidity and mortality conference, foregut disease conference, grand rounds and several tumor board conferences. Our program has a robust volume of third space endoscopy and endoscopic submucosal dissection, with a separate, dedicated third-space endoscopy fellow. As such, advanced endoscopy fellows are welcome to observe and attend third space endoscopy cases but will not be expected to be trained in or graduate with competency in these procedures.
