Additional Information about Program

NYU LANGONE HOSPITAL - LONG ISLAND
INTERVENTIONAL ADVANCED ENDOSCOPY PROGRAM

The interventional service is comprised of 5 interventional attendings. Our overall volume of interventional procedures includes both EUS (including interventional EUS such as ablation, fiducial insertion, pseudocyst drainage/necrosectomy, liver biopsy, coil embolization, EUS guided pancreatobiliary access, and EUS guided gastroenterostomy), and ERCP (including altered anatomy/EDGE, hilar strictures, difficult stones, ampullectomy, pancreatobiliary malignancy, and pancreatic endotherapy for chronic pancreatitis). Additional common procedures include luminal stents, RFA, cryotherapy, double balloon enteroscopy, and Spyglass DS/Slim scope cholangioscopy/pancreatoscopy, Cellvizio confocal microscopy, anti-reflux procedures (TIF, ARM) and bariatric procedures (transoral outlet reduction with the Overstitch). Third space endoscopy procedures include EMR, ESD, STER, EFTR, and FTRD (Barrett's, early gastric cancer, duodenal/ampullary adenomas, large colonic adenomas and subepithelial lesions) in addition to POEM for achalasia, Zenker’s diverticulum and gastroparesis. The advanced endoscopy trainee will be involved in the most challenging and/or educational of these procedures, including novel techniques and technologies (approximately 1000 EUS, 550 ERCPs and other interventional procedures, currently performed by our advanced endoscopists).

Given our program's emphasis on innovation and advancement of the field of interventional endoscopy, we are looking for candidates with intellectual curiosity, solid research skills, a strong commitment to academics, and a very strong work ethic. There are no responsibilities outside of advanced endoscopy and research. The advanced trainee participates in ~25 advanced procedures per week, has the opportunity to participate in pig lab and other scheduled research activities, rounds on the interventional service inpatients in conjunction with the categorical biliary fellow and an interventional PA, and sees patients at the interventional clinic for ~1/2 day per week. A typical clinical week involves approximately 50 hours of interventional clinical work. Research (including data collection, analysis, manuscript preparation, video editing, and pig lab work) is mostly accomplished during weekends and the time allotted for preparation for major meetings.
