Additional Information about Program

The University of Miami Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship is a 1-year program that teaches both EUS and ERCP. We are the only NCI designated cancer center in South Florida, and accordingly, we receive a high volume of complex pancreatico-biliary endoscopy referrals. Training will take place at both the University of Miami Hospital and Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Fellows will receive broad training in all aspects of diagnostic and therapeutic EUS and ERCP including altered-anatomy procedures and EUS-guided drainage procedures. Fellows will also be trained in enteral stenting, complex upper and lower GI EMR, endoscopic suturing, deep enteroscopy, and RFA. In addition, those interested may also gain exposure to third space (POEM/ESD) and bariatric endoscopy, although this will not be the primary focus of the year. We have an animal lab at the University of Miami that those interested in sub-mucosal endoscopy can use to begin to develop their skills in this regard.

The 4th year fellow will participate in all appropriate divisional conferences and will play an integral role in the education of general GI fellows. A major focus of training will also be understanding the correct indications, risks, and benefits for various advanced endoscopic procedures as well as how to appropriately manage complications. A reasonable amount of scholarly activity will be expected throughout the year.
